Other hardware notables include shoulder buttons, which might remove the need to use a dedicated Bluetooth controller of clip-on accessory with the Black Shark 4 and 4 Pro. That doesn’t mean that added accessories are not available, as you can grab an addition cooler priced at around $30. It just goes to show that when it comes to comparing the Snapdragon 870 versus the newer Snapdragon 888, the differences are negligible. So you can get nearly the same flagship performance at less than half the (retail) cost. But after ignoring the warning and sticking with 60fps, while leaving everything else as it was, it was time to see how well it performed.
The Li-Po 4500 mAh, non-removable battery gives the smartphone a good battery backup. The lithium polymer (Li-Po) battery is a thin, light-weight, rechargeable battery. No periodic discharge is needed and charging can be done at random. The battery of Black Shark 4 isn’t removable without voiding the warranty. The model runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chip with a transistor size of 5 nm. With regard to the rest of the daily tasks, the user will not feel any shortcomings, regardless of the size of the application they use.
- The Black Shark 4 Pro comes packed with a 4,500mAh battery, which is a little lacking when compared to the 5,000mAh monster cells you can find in phones at this price point.
- That’s ahead of the device going on sale in the UK and Europe from 6 May.
- The Black Shark 4 uses the Qualcomm 870 processor, which is commonly found in many upper mid-range and affordable flagship devices.
- As you can see in the sample below, the Black Shark 4 Pro’s macro sensor fails to capture the finer details of my e-reader’s leather cover.
The magnetic pop-up triggers simulate the physical feel of actual triggers on controllers, making for a responsive and satisfying tactile experience for gamers. For non-gaming scenarios, the triggers also work as the shortcut buttons to turn on the flashlight, free up RAM, record audio, take screenshots, record screen, and more. When not in use, with just a click, the triggers disappear seamlessly back into the edge of the Black Shark 4 Pro. Without a stock ROM firmware single morsel of doubt, I can confidently recommend the Black Shark 4 for gamers. The physical trigger buttons were a pleasant experience and the device didn’t even break a sweat on max settings on high refresh rates.

Unlike other gaming phones, like the RedMagic 6 and the ASUS ROG Phone 5, Xiaomi opted for a somewhat muted design with the Black Shark 4. You won’t find RGB anywhere (other than the display), but you will find some subtle Black Shark branding on the back. This is an average score considering that I rate battery life to be very good when the smartphone lasts at least 10+ hours on this benchmark. I didn’t notice any inconsistency in rendering in ultra wide-angle compared to wide-angle, which is good. On the other hand, the distortion along the edges of the image is quite present. Portrait mode photos are quite flat since the smartphone lacks depth sensors, but the crop remains quite clean.
